Congratulations Summer Readers

Now that the school year has begun and summer is officially over, we want to say THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to all of our avid summer reading participants!  We had so much fun this year and ended it on a high note at the ice cream social and Around-the-World bingo party last Saturday.  With delicious ice cream donated by the Chocolate Shoppe and the deafening shouts of readers yelling "Summer Reading Bingo!" it was a fantastic end to a summer of many, many stories.  

This program will begin again in June 2012- we hope you keep reading!

2011 Summer Reading Success!

If you completed our summer reading program, you received an invitation by mail to our exclusive event this Sunday, August 28.  Your tickets are still available for pickup at the circulation desk.  Check back next week for a recap of the party!

Lincolnwood readers of all ages are reading up a storm during the hot, hazy days of summer. Remember to bring along your favorite beach reads when you grab the sunscreen!

Family Night on August 11

Join us for our last Family Night of the summer!  The theme is Sleepy Time: Lullabies and Bedtime Around the World.  Children of all ages are invited to enjoy milk and cookies while listening to multicultural bedtime stories. Wear your pajamas and bring your favorite snuggly toy!

 As of July 21, 2011, Lincolnwood residents have read 4,200 total hours this summer. 

It's been a hot week - we hope you spent some time indoors with a book!

More than twenty families gathered at the Lincolnwood Public Library on Thursday, June 16 to make pinatas, listen to music and read Chicks and Salsa, by Aaron Reynolds.  It was muy divertido.

Our Teens Get Crafty

Drop-in Crafts from Around the World 

Each week of summer reading, teens can stop by the Teen desk and create a variety of crafts with roots
in other nations. Projects include lucha libre thumb wrestlers (Mexico), string dolls (Thailand), boomerangs (Australia), paper beads (Egypt), and paper cranes (Japan). Have fun learning about other cultures as you make and take! 

Teen readers can also spin the “Worldly Wheel” at the Teen desk and get a chance to win rewards like passes to Lincolnwood Fest Days, GameStop gift cards, iTunes gift cards, and the latest Rick Riordan book The Throne of Fire!
